Bio

Alix Perez is a name that has become some what legendary in the drum & bass scene, beginning his journey in 2005 picking up his mothers record collection and teaching himself to DJ from an early age. Regularly pushing the boundaries of Drum & Bass both with solo releases and collaborations.

Perez/1985's cult like following shows just how engaging the label is, with a worldwide following. Alix migrated to New Zeland amidst the lockdown in 2020, where a fresh new buzz of the music was just starting to emerge. Spreading the uk rave scene culture to a younger generation, giving the producer a second wind.

Starting a label can be quite a daunting task, but Alix shows that with the right vision and execution it can become a reality.

"I feel like I could potentially have started the label earlier than I did, but at the same time, these things take time. My motto has always been that it’s a marathon, not a sprint, and my career has proven that. It’s taken me a long time to get to where I am as an artist and feel accomplished. It’s so accessible to start a digital label nowadays and I think a lot of artists are maybe peddling too fast and there isn’t the quality control. You have to remember what you’re putting out will always be out there and that will be the story of your label.
I felt that I was ready to have a platform where I could make the decisions and not have anyone trying to control me as an artist. 1985 is my vision and it allows me to control everything and display the best and most honest music I can find. I just think it’s really important to take your time and get to the point where you feel you’re ready for that. I learned a lot from other labels and I’m thankful for them working with me earlier in my career, but it got to a point where I had my own vision and wanted to develop that."
